Faced Exhibition

Mom sat at a table indoors, putting on makeup. The table has a random assortment of things, from makeup utensils, to a purse, and a water bottle holding up a mirror. The photo is contrasty, with some bright light shining from a window on the left.

Mom sat at a table indoors, putting on makeup. The table seems neater, and a water bottle still holds the mirror. She is holding a brush, and looking directly at the camera, looking about to speak.

When thinking of the theme, Faced, I thought of the stories that the lines and expressions on our face tell. I thought of my mother as we sat inside, away from the scorching sun, getting ready for a wedding, putting on makeup and catching up on our year. I thought of the calm focus on her face in the first photo, and the “I love you, but we will be late if you don’t stop taking photos” expression in the second one. I was faced with time and how those quiet moments are now reflected and suspended in photos.
